It is a great time for south Indian cinema. As RRR continues to grab global headlines ahead of the awards season, Kannada film Kantara has secured two Oscar qualifications—Best Film and Best Actor.

Rishab, who has also wrote and directed the film, besides playing the lead, also shared the same note on his social media handles.
Set in a village in northern Karnataka, Kantara revolves around a Kambala champion. The film was hailed for its visual excellence that captured the folklore and culture of the state.
According to reports, the Academy of Motion Pictures on Tuesday shared a list 301 films that are eligible for the 95th Academy Awards.
The list includes movies that can officially compete in various categories but merely featuring in the list does not guarantee that the film will advance in the final nominations, the Indian Express reported. The final list of nominations will be announced on January 24.
