Sunidhi Chauhan is currently one of the most sought-after playback singers in Bollywood. However, the path to stardom and popularity was never an easy one for her as she was once told she would not survive in the music industry.

In a recent interaction with entertainment portal Bollywood Bubble, Chauhan said a music director had once told her she had a man's voice.

She revealed that in the initial years of her career, she faced prejudices and was even told to pack her bags and go home because she "cannot sing Lag Jaa Gale in the original key."

She said once a "big music director" questioned her preparedness, but thanks to him she went home and practiced.

"...another music director who said that this kind of voice is not going to work. I was told that I have too strong a voice, it sounds like a man’s voice on an actress. So, pack your bags, you won’t survive here,” she was quoted as saying.

She said she is thankful for such experiences as these have made her a stronger person. "But today, they have memory loss. For them, such things never happened,” Chauhan, who was once named her as the "Numero Uno" singer of the generation by none other than the legendary Lata Mangeshkar, added.
