'Slumdog Millionaire' actor accused of sexual assault, FIR registered

Madhur Mittal, a Bollywood actor popular for playing the role of Salim Malik in the Academy Award winning Slumdog Millionaire, has been booked by Mumbai police for allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend.

According to media reports, Mittal assaulted the girl, a Bandra resident, at her residence after she decided to cut ties with him. The incident happened on February 13.

The duo had met in December 2020, and within a few weeks, the actor had allegedly forced himself on her under the influence of alcohol, the lawyer of the girl said. On February 11, she informed him of her decision to severe ties. However, two days later the actor barged into her house and attacked her.

According to her lawyer, Mittal strangled the girl, slapped her several times, and punched her. She had sustained injuries on her face, chest, hands, face and neck.

An FIR has been registered against the actor for sexual harassment and assault under various sections of the IPC, and probe is underway.
