Actor Vijay's highly anticipated film will release on January 13, 2021, to coincide with the festival of Pongal. The film's makers took to Twitter to confirm the date.
The film will be the first major Tamil release of 2021. Earlier, when many films took the OTT route, it was speculated if Master, too, will head in the direction. However, the the confirmed they were looking at a theatrical release.

Recently, Vijay met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to discuss the release of the film in theatres. According to reports, Vijay requested the chief minister to allow 100 per cent seating capacity in theatres when the film releases. At present, theatres have been allowed to function with only 50 per cent seating capacity in accordance with COVID-19 safety protocol. However, the government has not announced any decision on this.
Written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Master also features Vijay Sethupathi and Malavika Mohanan among others.
