Reality star Kim Kardashian ushered in her 40th birthday in style recently, holding a private party for her “closest inner circle” at a private island. She took to social media to say they “danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more.”

"40 and feeling so humbled and blessed. There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter," she wrote, adding that she couldn't think of a better way to celebrate the birthday than in the company of the people who shaped her into the woman she is today.

"Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment," she wrote, adding that she realizes that "for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is."

However, she faced backlash for holding a party during the pandemic. "I love how the elite don’t have to social distance OR wear masks 🙇🏻‍♀️ called it #hypocrites," wrote one, while another Instagram user called her "selfish."

All I see if a whole bunch of people without masks standing around each other, commented a user, while another wrote: "Are you really clueless enough to post this now??! Wow"

"Humbled? Humble on an island? Paying for multiple health tests when we have to wait for ages," wrote another follower.

Last time I checked, there was a pandemic going on, yet rich people are still holding parties and going on trips, wrote a user, while another person called her "tone deaf."
