The nominations for the 72nd Emmy Awards were announced on Tuesday. Netflix, with 160 nominations, broke the record for most nominations for any network, studio or streaming platform. The streaming giant smashed the record set by HBO last year. This year, HBO came in second with 107 nominations, with NBC at third place with 47.
With Game of Thrones out of the race this time, the competition made space more newcomers and other shows. Netflix’s Ozark, HBO’s Succession, and Netflix’s Crown scored nominations. HBO’s Watchmen led all shows with 26 nominations. Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, another Emmy favorite, came in second, with 20.
Apple TV + and Disney + picked their first nominations this year. Apple TV + picked up a total of 18 nominations across various categories, including two major nominations for series The Morning Show-Steve Carell was nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series, and Jennifer Aniston was nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Series.
Disney+ series The Mandalorian also received a nod in the Best Drama category.
