Over the last two years, since Rishi Kapoor was diagnosed with cancer, wife Neetu Kapoor has been regularly posting snippets from their life on social media. Be it images with family, or those with friends and celebrities who visited Rishi Kapoor and her while he was undergoing treatment in the US, she has shown the brighter side of things.
In a final tribute to Rishi Kapoor who passed away on April 30, Neetu Kapoor took to Instagram to post a cheery picture of the veteran actor. The picture shows Rishi Kapoor, smiling at the camera, with a glass of whisky in his hand. She captioned it: “End of our story”.
The post soon started trending, and has received comments from many celebrities who said their story would never end. Actor Anupam Kher wrote: "Some stories never end". Actor Sonu Sood wrote, "It’s a story that inspired many stories on this planet mam. Some stories never end in fact they will remain in our hearts forever. Rishi sir will always be a guiding angel."
Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor acted together in quite a number of hit films like Khel Khel Mein, Amar Akbar Antony and so on before they tied the knot in 1980. After their marriage, they shared the screen space in Love Aaj Kal, Do Dooni Chaar, Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Besharam.
In a statement released on April 30, Rishi Kapoor’s family urged fans to maintain calm and respect lockdown rules. "Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8:45am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukemia. The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last. He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents. Family, friends, food and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him. He was grateful for the love of his fans that poured in from the world over. In his passing, they would all understand that he would like to be remembered with a smile and not with tears. In this hour of personal loss, we also recognise the world is going through a very difficult and troubled time. There are numerous restrictions around movement and gathering in public. We would like to request all his fans and well-wishers and friends of the family to please respect the laws that are in force. He would not have it any other way," the statement said.
