Tollywood superstars contribute big to the fight against coronavirus

Ram Charan donated Rs 70 lakh for relief in AP, Telangana

As the number of coronavirus cases crossed 700 in India, celebrities have been doing their part, spreading awareness about social distancing and also pitching in with financial assistance.

Telugu superstar Ram Charan, who celebrates his 37th birthday on Friday, took to Twitter on Thursday to announce that he would contribute Rs 70 lakh to fight the pandemic. Fans have been appreciating the star’s gesture, and wishing him the best on his birthday. He said that he was inspired by actor-politician Pawan Kalyan who Rs 1 crore to the PM’s relief fund and Rs 50 lakh each to the relief funds of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Baahubali superstar Prabhas has also contributed to Rs 1 crore to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Chief Ministers’ Relief Funds. Prabhas recently returned from Georgia where he was shooting for a film, and went into 14-day self-quarantine.

Telugu superstars Mahesh Babu and Chiranjeevi, who is Ram Charan’s father, have also contributed Rs 1 crore for to the relief funds of both states. Actor Allu Arjun contributed Rs 1.25 crore to the relief fund of three states – Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala. Interestingly, Allu Arjun has a huge fan base in Kerala.

The death toll due to coronavirus rose to 17 in the country on Friday and the number of coronavirus cases climbed to 724, according to the Health Ministry. With a 28-yr-old person testing positive for coronavirus in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, the number of cases in the state rose to 11. On Friday, a 45-year-old person tested positive in Telangana, taking the state’s tally to 45.

Days after Modi called for Janta curfew on Sunday, the PM announced 21-day-long total lockdown across the country, starting Wednesday, to contain the outbreak.  In a televised address, PM Modi said that it is important to break the chain to bring the outbreak under control. All public transport have been banned while any kind of non-essential movement outside the house has also been prohibited.
