Actress Sonam Kapoor, on Monday, kicked off a Twitter debate, with her comment on RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's recent remarks on divorce. "Which sane man speaks like this? Regressive foolish statements," Sonam tweeted.

On Sunday, addressing a gathering of RSS workers, Bhagwat said the number of divorce cases are on the rise and cited 'education' as one of the causes. "Nowadays the number of divorce cases has increased a lot. People fight over trivial issues. The cases of divorce are more in educated and affluent families, because with education and affluence comes arrogance, as a result of which families fall apart. The society also falls apart because society is also a family," he said.

“The condition of the society is because of the customs that have been practising here for the last 2,000 years. Women we have here were confined to homes. This was not the case 2,000 years ago. That was the golden age of our society," he added.

Sonam's tweet has received mixed response, with many coming out in support of her opinion and slamming Bhagwat's comments. On the other hand, there are others trolling Sonam.

On work front, Sonam was last seen in The Zoya Factor alongside Dulquer Salman. The Zoya Akhtar directorial was based on Anuja Chauhan's book by the same name.

Recently, Sonam announced the beginning of ace shooter Abhinav Bindra's biopic with a picture of the Olympic Champion with her brother Harshvardhan Kapoor and father Anil Kapoor. Sonam shared a picture of all the men donning black attires, and captioned it: "This is going to be special - The Bindra biopic. All the best @anilskapoor @harshvarrdhankapoor @abhinav_bindra."

The film, based on the life of the ace shooter, will see Harshvardhan play the titular role.
