Malayalam actor Prithviraj's directorial debut Lucifer, starring Mohanlal, was one of the biggest box office hits this year. Following its massive success, the team had announced a sequel Empuraan. During an event in Kochi recently, Prithviraj said that he was planning Lucifer as a trilogy, according to reports.

He added that the actor-filmmaker Murali Gopy who scripted Lucifer will also be handling the sequels.

Apart from Mohanlal, Lucifer featured an impressive line of stars, including Tovino Thomas, Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, Indrajith, Mamta Mohandas and Manju Warrier. In the political thriller, Mohanlal played Stephen Nedumbally and Prithviraj made a surprise entry as Saeed Massod. Scripted by Murali Gopy, Lucifer, was bankrolled by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.

Mohanlal is currently busy with his directorial debut Barroz, a children's fantasy drama. Empuraan is its post-production phase and is expected to go on floors mid-2020.
