Ajith-starrer Nerkonda Paarvai, which released Thursday, has been receiving good reviews from critics and audience. Directed by H. Vinoth, Nerkonda Paarvai is an official Kollywood remake of the Bollywood movie, Pink, which had Taapsee Pannu and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead.

While Ajith plays the character played by Bachchan in the original, Shraddha Srinath will reprise the role played by Taapsee. The movie also marks the Tamil debut of Bollywood actor Vidya Balan. Other actors in the movie include Abhirami Venkatachalam, Adhik Ravichandran and Arjun Chidambaram.

Amid positive reviews, and the need for men to understand the concept of 'consent', a video showing three male reviewers speak about the film has been going viral. The video clip shows them contrasting the backdrop of the Hindi original Pink, to the Tamil film. They go on to say how the culture of pubbing or casual sex is common in north India, and that's why the Hindi film suits the audience there. What has been drawing backlash is their comments on how this culture does not suit the morality of girls in South India. Singer Chinmayi Sripada who has been vocal against the misogyny in the industry slammed the everyday misogyny of the three 'mainstream Tamil reviewers.

Speaking to The News Minute earlier, director Vinoth had said it is necessary for men to understand consent. “Men and women are the same everywhere. For me, the film was not about drinking and premarital sex; it was about consent,” he said, adding that that is why these scenes retained din the remake.

The film also marks Boney Kapoor's first Tamil production
