Pune-headquartered defense and aerospace manufacturing company, Nibe Limited, has successfully demonstrated the capabilities of its Garudastra, an advanced long-range 120 mm vehicle-mounted mortar system, during trials conducted at the Infantry School in Mhow.

According to the company, the demonstration showcased several key operational features of the system, including rapid shoot-and-scoot capability, a high rate of fire, Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact (MRSI) and precision engagement using guided munitions equipped with GPS and laser guidance.

The Garudastra is built around a guided 120 mm mortar ammunition system designed to provide precision indirect fire support. The weapon is capable of engaging targets at ranges of 7 km to 10 km and is equipped with a 17-kg penetrating warhead capable of defeating up to 20 cm of reinforced concrete, according to the company.

Nibe said the successful demonstration highlighted the system's ability to deliver accurate and responsive firepower while maintaining mobility on the battlefield.

The company described the trial as another step in its efforts to develop indigenous defence capabilities through collaboration with a foreign original equipment manufacturer (OEM). It added that the programme aligns with the government's Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.

"Garudastra exemplifies Nibe's dedication to delivering world-class, future-ready defence solutions developed to meet the evolving requirements of the Indian Armed Forces," the company said.

The demonstration comes days after Nibe rejected allegations relating to another one of its defence products, the Suryastra rocket launcher system.

Meanwhile, in a recent exchange filing, the company strongly refuted claims made in a publication, saying the article mischaracterised its 300-km-range Universal Rocket Launching System, Suryastra, and questioned the integrity of the fast-track procurement process used by the Indian Army.

The company maintained that the claims were inaccurate and defamatory.
