The government has granted arms manufacturing licence to Zen Technologies Limited, the Hyderabad-headquartered company which designs, develops and manufactures combat training solutions, to produce a range of cannons used in air defence and counter-drone operations.

Accordingly, the company will manufacture 12.7mm, 23mm, 30mm and 40mm cannons, which will be used in air defence, naval operations and for counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) purposes. These cannons would serve as a last-line defence against drones, loitering munitions and low-flying aerial threats.

The company stated that, when paired with fire-control systems, radar, and electro-optical/infrared sensors, these cannons can deliver precise and economical defence for vital infrastructure, border regions, and armoured units.

“Against the backdrop of ongoing global conflicts, where drones, loitering munitions, and asymmetric aerial threats are increasingly prevalent, these systems equip Zen Technologies to address emerging battlefield challenges with Indiacentric, cost-effective air defence solutions,” the company stated.

This move is expected to strengthen the country's indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem under the IDDM (Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) framework.

According to the company, it has a portfolio of over 40 products designed and developed indigenously, ranging from live fire, live instrumented, virtual and constructive training systems for individual and collective training and counter drone solutions.
