Adani Defence and Aerospace, which delivered the first batch of 2,000 'Prahar', light machine guns (LMGs), which is a licensed version of the Israeli Negev NG7, said it can manufacture 1,00,000 guns per year.

Ashish Rajwanshi, president and CEO of Adani Aerospace and Defence, said the company’s manufacturing process is driven by highly reliable and precise quality management systems, ensuring defect and rejection rates remain below 0.4–0.5 per cent.

He added that the production is enabled by Industry 4.0 digitisation, saying the quick and early delivery of LMGS is an indication of the future of India’s defence manufacturing.

Rajwanshi said Adani Defence has moved from a component manufacturer to a full gun OEM.

"The whole focus was not about supplying a product or a gun, but to build a deep capability in India across the whole portfolio of small arms. What started as a light machine gun contract was actually establishing a full capability across light machine gun assault rifles, pistols, snipers, and carbines within the country," he was quoted as saying.

Rajwanshi said the company is not limiting itself to small arms and will soon expand into larger segments. "Very soon, in the next two weeks, we are also inaugurating our large calibre ammunition complex in Kanpur, which is one of the largest ammunition complexes in South Asia across small, medium, and large calibre," he said.

He described the upcoming Kanpur facility as a benchmark project on the lines of the Gwalior unit, where the 'Prahar' LMGs are being manufactured, while noting that its Hyderabad facility is focused on unmanned systems, electronic warfare and loitering munitions, which are expected to shape future warfare.

Rajwanshi added that over the past six months, the company has also entered the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) space, as well as aircraft and helicopter manufacturing.

"So there are multiple areas in which Adani Defence is actually working and bringing the Make in India technology, which is important for the 2047 vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat", he added, according to news agency ANI.
