Spying at Rafale fighter jet facility? Security scare at Dassault plant as worker caught with smart glasses

A security incident at Dassault Aviation's French facility raised alarms when a 19-year-old employee was found wearing Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses on the Rafale fighter jet assembly line

Amid the hype surrounding the Indian defence ministry clearing a proposal to procure 114 Rafale fighter jets from the French defence manufacturer, Dassault, an incident that raised alarm was reported from the Cergy (Val-d'Oise) facility of Dassault Aviation in France recently.

According to media reports, a 19-year-old temporary employee, who was working on the assembly line of the fighter jet, was caught wearing video glasses on the premises.

According to media reports, he was wearing Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses that were equipped with a camera.

He was reportedly taken into custody for filming confidential content that could harm national interests, data theft, and violation of trade secrets.

"We immediately notified the relevant authorities, who have taken the necessary action," the company reportedly said in a statement.

However, it was revealed during further investigation that the youngster had not used his glasses to film anything within the premises of the facility.

According to a report by Le Parisien, his phone contained photos of the aircraft cables, which he claimed were taken as examples of the wiring for the work he had to do. However, the investigation revealed that he had not shared these images with any third party.

After his custody was lifted, the youngster received a summons for a criminal order to be tried on charges of unauthorised drawing, lifting, or recording in a prohibited area, according to media reports.
