The rates for commercial LPG have been hiked again, on Monday. The price of a 19-kg cylinder now costs Rs 42 more in Delhi, PTI reported, citing industry sources. The hike comes as a supply disruption due to the Iran conflict, driving global energy prices higher.
In Kolkata, the 19-kilogram LPG cylinder costs Rs 53.50 more.
The retail price of the commercial cylinder now stands at Rs 3,113.50 in Delhi and Rs 3,255.50 in Kolkata after taking local taxes into account.
There are, however, no changes to the prices of domestic cylinders.
The price of the 5 kg FTL (Free trade LPG) has also been raised by Rs 11 and crossed Rs 821.50 in Delhi.
The new prices are effective from June 1.
The hike comes days after the government asked state-run fuel retailers, India Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum, to expand liquefied petroleum gas storage to cover at least 30 days of supply demand. The order comes amid the West Asia conflict.
The latest hike comes after a series of revisions in the price this year. In January, the price for the commercial LPG stood at Rs 1691.50 in January.
The price has risen steadily, including a Rs 49 increase in February and Rs 115 in March.
In April, the price surged by Rs 993 per cylinder.
A 19-kg cylinder is currently priced at ₹3,024.50 in Mumbai, ₹3,232 in Chennai, ₹3,294 in Hyderabad and ₹3,322 in Patna.
Delhi, Lucknow, Gurugram, Jaipur, Noida and Bhopal all saw a hike of Rs 42.00. In Mumbai and Chandigarh, the prices for the 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder rose by Rs 43. In Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, and Patna, the prices rose by Rs 52-53, making the prices stand at Rs 3255.50.
In Bengaluru, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram, the prices rose by Rs 46.
Despite concerns over supply, the government says there is no shortage of fuel in the country.
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, domestic refineries are producing around 50,000 and 52,000 tonnes of LPG every day.
There was also a recent hike for compressed natural gas in Delhi, with prices rising by Rs 2 per kilogram, bringing the rates to Rs 83.09 per kg.
