Mahindra has launched the XEV 9S, a seven-seater electric SUV, which the company claims offers “a very quiet and smooth ride”.  With a total of six variants with the fully loaded Pack Three Above 79 kWh, the vehicles are priced at ex-showroom 29.45 lakh.

It has also introduced a 70 kWh battery, which offers a power of 180 kW. The bookings  will open from January 14th 2026, and the deliveries will start from January 23, 2026. The vehicle is based on the INGLO platform. The starting price will be Rs 19.95 lakhs.

The vehicle, tagged an intelligent spacious SUV, has an advanced LFP Battery and a cabin space of 4076 L for the front and second row. It also has a boot space of upto 527 L  and has frunk space of 150 L and 50:50 split seats in the third Row. The vehicle also has seven airbags and a Driver Drowsiness Detection with DOMS (Eyedentity). The makers also boasts it is the fastest seven-seater SUV in its class and can reach 0–100 km/h in 7.0 seconds and has a top speed of 202 km/h.

Mahindra claims that it has 40 per cent depreciation benefits for business owners at Rs 1.2 per km running costs, with a maintenance cost of 40 paise per kilometre, with a negligible road tax.

“The whole electric origin SUVs have really been transformational for the company, and it has helped us learn many new things. Today, around 6000 people are working on the EV SUV segment at Mahindras. We started with 2000 people around three years back,” remarked Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director, Auto and Farm Sectors, Mahindra Group.

He said that customers of electric vehicles are far more open to newer brands coming in and the ability to get brand traction on an electric is probably greater than the conventional mode.

As far as plans to go for exports, Jejurikar said that it would be a calibrated move and they would move very selectively. “We do not want to open in multiple countries so far. We will be very planned and calibrated in our move. There are a couple of countries we are focused on right now and trying to understand what the go-to-market strategy can be in such countries,” added Jejurikar.

On recycling of car batteries in the long run, he said that it is something the company was looking at very seriously. “We have an electric three-wheeler company which has been in existence for much longer. The disposal of such three-wheeler cells and batteries will happen much before the SUVs. We are otherwise trying to figure out what kind of solutions we need for battery recycling, and there's a team which is working on it,” pointed out Jejurikar.
He also informed that they will keep an operating capacity of up to about 8,000 EV SUVs a month for the vehicle till March 2026. “Our aim is to create a capacity typically 15 to 20 per cent more than what we want to do. So, operating capacity will be in the region of 8,000, which includes the XEV 9S,” said Jejurikar.
