Marvel, on Monday, laid off 15 employees across departments. The move comes after Disney CEO Bob Iger said that the company would reduce output. No more layoffs are expected as of now. The company known for its Avengers superhero films is refocusing its slate after a recent boom in production.

The studio has just one movie opening this year, Deadpool and Wolverine in July, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The studio is also expected to have just two live-action shows this year. Iger had recently indicated that he expected Disney to lower its output overall and focus on quality content. The last few projects by Marvel, including Madame Web, did poorly at the box office.

“We’ve reduced output, particularly at Marvel. When you fix or when you address these issues with movies, you do three things,” Iger said, Hollywood Reporter reported. In 2021 the studio released four films and five TV shows, while in 2022, it put out three films. three TV shows, and a few specials. In 2023, it put out three films and three TV shows.

“Sometimes, you kill projects you don’t believe in. And, of course, you put new things in the pipeline that you do believe in that you have much more confidence in — and we’re doing all of that,” Iger added.
