Wipro veteran Srinivas Pallia has taken over as the IT giant's MD and CEO on Sunday after Thierry Delaporte resigned from the role.

“...The Board of Directors has approved the appointment of Mr. Srinivas Pallia as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Company with effect from April 7, 2024 for a period of five years, subject to approval shareholders and the Central of Government as may be applicable,” the company's regulatory filing read.

Why is Pallia's appointment crucial?

With 32 years of experience in Wipro, many feel that Pallia is an apt choice for the CEO's role as hiring an outsider could pose transitional challenges.

Delaporte's premature departure after four years at the helm comes amid Wipro's lacklustre business growth during the previous quarters. His contract was due to expire by July 2025. He is the latest in the long line of senior executives quitting Wipro. Chief Operations Officer Sanjeev Singh, Chief Financial Officer Jatin Dalal, and Chief Growth Officer Stephanie Trautman left the IT services major in 2023.

Who is Srinivas Pallia?

Srinivas Pallia joined the IT services major in 1992 and according to the company, he "strengthened Wipro's business performance" during his tenure. He was the CEO of Wipro's Americas 1 unit of Wipro before his current role. He also served as the president of Wipro's consumer business unit and the global head of business application services.

He completed his bachelor's in engineering and masters in technology from IISc, Bengaluru. He pursued the Leading Global Businesses executive program from Harvard Business School and the Advanced Leadership Program from McGill Executive Institute.
