Amazon Web Services (AWS) has laid off hundreds of people in sales, marketing and tech departments in what comes as the latest round of job cuts in Amazon.com.

The parent company of AWS, Amazon.com, has been laying off hundreds of employees in various departments, including its Prime Video service, healthcare business and Alexa voice assistant unit in the past two years.

The affected employees are from the sales, marketing and global services division and the physical stores technology team of AWS, a Reuters report said.

"We have identified a few targeted areas of the organization we need to streamline," an AWS spokesperson said.

According to news site The Information, which first reported on the job cuts, the elimination of roles at AWS' 60,000-strong sales, marketing and global services division are likely to be part of a broad reorganisation under sales chief Matt Garman.

Over the last two years, Amazon laid off more than 27,000 employees.
