April 1 will be a holiday for banks for annual account closing

Both private and public banks in the country will remain closed on Friday on account of Good Friday across various states, except Tripura, Assam, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Shimla and Srinagar. However, the banks will function on Saturday and Sunday.

According to an instruction by the Reserve Bank Of India (RBI), all agency banks should keep their designated branches open for over-the-counter transactions up to the normal working hours on Saturday (March 30) and Sunday (March 31). 

Transactions through National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) and Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) System will continue upto midnight on Sunday.

A press release issued by RBI on March 22 read: "With a view to providing greater convenience to tax payers it has been decided that RBI offices dealing with Government business and all designated branches of agency banks conducting government banking business will keep their counters open as per normal working hours on March 30, 2024, and March 31, 2024; electronic transactions can be done till the stipulated time on both the days."

However, banks will be closed on Monday (April 1) in most Union Territories and states except for Chandigarh, Sikkim, Mizoram, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya, for the annual account closing. 

Banks all over the country are preparing for a series of holidays in April 2024, which marks the beginning of the new financial year. As per the RBI's yearly holiday schedule, and both public and private banks will be closed for around 14 days in April, including weekends that fall on the second and fourth Saturdays as well as Sundays.
