A day after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and a few private lenders, including ICICI Bank and HDFC, received bomb threats, demanding the resignation of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, Mumbai Police arrested a person from Vododara in Gujarat in connection with the threats.
According to news agency ANI, Mumbai Police said the crime branch is questioning the accused in connection with the threat mail.
On Tuesday, RBI had received a threat mail, saying bombs would be planted in the RBI office and in the office premises of HDFC bank and ICICI bank in the city. A total of 11 bomb threats were made at 11 places in Mumbai, the police had said.
Cops had gone to these places but found nothing.
The accused, in the threat mail, alleged that RBI, along with private sector banks, executed the biggest scam in the history of India. Further, the sender claimed that the scam involves Das, FM Sitharaman, a few other ministers of India and top banking officials.
The sender had sought the resignation of Das and Sitharaman and demanded that they hold a press conference and disclose details of the alleged scam.
