At a time when many fear that AI could leave them jobless, Deloitte LLP using the technology to avoid job cuts. The consulting major is using AI to evaluate skills of its employees and place them in roles that are in demand so that mass layoffs can be avoided, said a report.
The company has hired 1.3 lakh employees this year, bringing it total staff strength close to 4.6 lakh. However, the number of new joinees is triple the figures 10 years ago when the revenue has about half the current numbers, reported Bloomberg.
The consulting firm has warned that thousands of US and UK jobs could be slashed following a rejig amid business slowdown and uncertain economy.
Deloitte is hoping that AI will help it avoid job cuts and moderate it hiring growth in the future, according to a Bloomberg report.
"It is obviously a great objective to be able to avoid large swings of hirings and layoffs," the outlet quoted Deloitte Global Chief Talent Officer Stevan Rolls as saying. "You could always be more efficient and effective about finding the right people."
"Let's imagine Deloitte was so successful and we doubled our size again, I'd be really worried about hiring a quarter of a million people a year. It might not be fewer but it might be the same as we hire now," he added.
