Pepperfry Co-founder and CEO Ambareesh Murty died in Leh due to cardiac arrest. The announcement was made by the furniture e-tailer's Co-founder and COO Ashish Shah on Tuesday.

"Extremely devastated to inform that my friend, mentor, brother, soulmate Ambareesh Murty is no more. Lost him yesterday night to a cardiac arrest at Leh. Please pray for him and for strength to his family and near ones," Shah posted on the X platform.

Cashkaro Co-founder Swati Bhargava also took to X, saying, “So sad & shocking to hear of @AmbareeshMurty’s sudden demise due to cardiac arrest. May his soul rest in peace. An amazing entrepreneur & inspiration to many... may his legacy with @Pepperfry live on #RIP.”

Droom and ShopClues Founder Sandeep Aggarwal tweeted, “...Knew him from the time he was exiting eBay. Amazing human being, very learned and great soul. Our prayers for his family and Pepperfry family. Om shanti!!”

Who was Ambareesh Murty?

Murty, 51, who was an angel investor, recently announced completing 12 years at Pepperfry on his LinkedIn post. According to his X profile, Murty described himself as a closet sociopath and a history buff who loves reading epic fantasies.

He completed his MBA from IIT Calcutta and completed his Bachelors in Engineering from the Delhi College of Engineering. He began his career with Cadbury besides short stints in ICICI Prudential, Britannia and Levi's.

According to his profile on Linkedin, Murty ran Origin Resources from 2003-05 in Bengaluru before joining eBay as its Country Manager for India, the Philippines and Malaysia till 2011. Murty founded Pepperfry in 2012 with his eBay colleague Shah.
