Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of the trading app Zerodha and the youngest billionaire in the country, will donate the majority of his wealth to charitable causes.
Kamath joined 'The Giving Pledge' campaign, founded Bill Gates and Warren Buffett in 2010, that encourages wealthy people to contribute a majority of their riches to philanthropic causes. The Zerodha co-founder is the youngest and only the fourth Indian to join the cause. Other Indians who joined 'The Giving Pledge' campaign are Azim Premji, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, and Rohini and Nandan Nilekani.
Kamath is committed to giving back to society and the planet his ever-growing wealth, a press release read.
He will be donating a minimum of 50 per cent of his net worth to charity, to be used in areas such as climate change, energy, education, and health.
"Despite my age, I am committed to positively impacting the world and believe that the foundation's mission of creating a more equitable society aligns with my values and aspirations. The Giving Pledge offers a great platform to learn, exchange ideas, and work collaboratively to address some of the world's most pressing challenges. I look forward to engaging with the Giving Pledge community and exploring new ways to create positive change," Kamath said.
Kamath is also involved with various organisations and foundations including Rainmatter, Giving Pi, Bridgespan, British Asian Trust, ad YUVA. He also has his own foundation called, ‘Young Indian Philanthropic Pledge (YIPP)’.
