After laying off 12,000 of its employees as part of the cost-cutting measures, Google has come out with a series of initiatives to further trim costs. This involves canceling many of the perks offered to the company's employees, including free snacks, company lunches, and laundry services.

A memo to the employees from Google's chief financial officer Ruth Porat, which has now been leaked, said the company is closing or consolidating its micro kitchens which offer free snacks and drinks.

The on-campus cafes will be closed on days when there is a reduced number of employees working.

The company will also stop spending money on personal equipment like laptops, which according to Google is a " significant expense." "We’ll be able to save meaningfully here," Google said in its memo.

“We set a high bar for industry-leading perks, benefits and office amenities, and will continue that into the future. However, some programs need to evolve for how Google works today,” Google said.

Google is planning to use the money saved from cutting down on perks for higher priority works.
