FM Nirmala Sitharaman begins pre-budget meetings

The budget for 2023-24 is likely to be on Feb 1

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman began her pre-budget meetings with experts from different fields on Monday. The FM chaired pre-budget consultations with the first group of heads from industries and experts in the field of infrastructure and climate change in Delhi. 

The meeting was attended by Union Minister of State Finance Pankaj Chaudhary and Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, Finance Secretary T.V Somanathan, secretaries from other departments of the finance ministry and the Chief Economic Advisor Anantha Nageswaran. 

The Minister will hold meetings virtually in three groups. 

The Ministry of Finance earlier stated that the special focus will be on issues concerning climate change and infrastructure. 

The budget for 2023-24 is likely to be tabled on Feb 1. 

The special focus is on issues concerning climate change and infrastructure. The minister would hold virtual meetings in three groups seeking suggestions for the 2023-24 Budget making from stakeholders.

Somanathan; Secretaries of DEA, @SecyDIPAM, DoR, @DFS_India, CEA Dr Anantha Nageswaran & Senior Economic Advisor @FinMinIndia."

According to reports, on November 22, the minister will meet representatives from the agriculture and agro-processing industry, financial sector and capital market as well. 

Also, meetings will be held with representatives from services sector and trade bodies. On November 24, FM will meet experts from social sector, including health, education, water and sanitation. 

The meetings with the trade union representatives and economists is likely to be held on November 28.
