In what may come as the first round of layoffs at Twitter after billionaire Elon Musk took over the company, 25 per cent of employees of the social media giant may be asked to leave soon, according to a Washington Post report.
This would mean nearly 2,000 employees of the company, which has a strength of 7,000 people, may be asked to go.
Twitter hasn't responded to reports of imminent job cuts in the company.
Recently, Musk had denied a New York Times report that said he was planning to lay off workers at Twitter as soon as on Saturday. Ahead of Musk's acquisition of Twitter, reports were circulating that he will cut headcount, with some reports saying 75 per cent of the workforce at the company could be laid off.
The NYT report had said the layoffs at Twitter would take place before the November 1, the date when employees were scheduled to receive stock grants as part of their compensation.
CEO of the company Parag Agrawal, legal executive Vijaya Gadde, chief financial officer Ned Segal, and general counsel Sean Edgett were asked to leave after Musk took over.
