Patanjali launches Coronil drug for COVID-19; Ramdev claims 100% recovery

On Tuesday, Patanjali launched Coronil tablets, which it claimed to be a cure for the novel coronavirus. Speaking at the release function in Haridwar, Patanjali CEO Acharya Balkrishna said the drug was an infusion of minerals and herbs, and that a 30-day corona kit will be available, reports claimed. 

"This is not an immunity booster but a cure," said Ramdev, according to Livemint. "69 per cent of the people recovered within 3 days. 100 per cent of the people recovered in 7 days. There has been zero per cent death rate and 100 per cent recovery rate."

Ramdev said the research was undertaken by a joint team of the Patanjali Research Institute (PRI) and the National Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Jaipur, and that a clinical study and a clinical controlled trial has been conducted. 

Earlier, Balkrishna had said when the virus began to spread across the world, a team of scientists at Patanjali Ayurved was tasked with find a cure for the disease. They worked day and night and identified herbs that had medicinal properties to cure the disease, he said.

With 14,933 people testing positive for coronavirus in a single day, India's COVID-19 tally climbed to 4,40,215 on Tuesday, while the death toll rose to 14,011 with 312 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The number of recoveries also surged with 2,48,189 patients cured so far, while there were 1,78,014 active cases.

During the last 24 hours, a total of 10,994 COVID-19 patients have recovered, taking the recovery rate to around 56.38 per cent amongst coronavirus infected patients.

Of the 312 fresh fatalities reported till Tuesday morning, 113 were from Maharashtra, 58 from Delhi, 37 from Tamil Nadu, 21 from Gujarat, 19 from Uttar Pradesh, 14 from West Bengal, 9 from Haryana, seven each from Rajasthan and Telangana, six from Madhya Pradesh, five each from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, three from Jammu and Kashmir,two each from Bihar and Punjab and one each from Chhattisgarh, Goa, Odisha and Uttarakhand.
