A month after announcing that salaries of all its employees would be slashed in order to counter the drop in revenue due to the global shutdown of the aviation industry over the COVID-19 pandemic, IndiGo Airlines has now rolled back the salary cut for its employees, in keeping with the government’s wishes of not reducing employee’s pay during the lockdown.

In deference to our government’s wishes of not reducing pay during the lockdown, we have decided not to implement the previously announced pay cuts during the month of April,” InterGlobe Aviation Limited CEO Ronojoy Dutta wrote in a mail to airline employees, accessed by PTI.

"However, your Excom [Executive Committee] members and SVPs (senior vice presidents) have volunteered to take pay cuts this month. For everyone else, you can expect your April salaries to be paid without the pay cuts," Dutta wrote.

Dutta had announced on March 19 that he would be taking the highest cut in pay at 25 per cent, while senior vice presidents and above would take a 20 per cent cut, vice presidents and cockpit crew a 15 per cent cut, assistant vice presidents, Bands D and cabin crew a 10 per cent cut and Band C’s a five per cent cut.

IndiGo, like other airlines in India, suspended the operation of all its scheduled commercial international and domestic flights until May 3, 2020, in keeping with the national lockdown. The company was earlier authorised by the government to operate up to 30 flights at its own cost to transport essential items such as medical equipment, medicine and food.

IndiGo is the largest airline in India in terms of the number of passengers it carries and the fleet size.
