Sundar Pichai to get $240 million stock package in 2020

It sure is a bumper year for Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai. Pichai who became Google's CEO in 2015, became Alphabet's CEO in 2019. The coming year looks even brighter for Pichai, who will be drawing an annual salary of $2 million in 2020.

The IIT Madras alumni will receive $240 million in stock awards over the next three years if he hits all of his performance targets. Pichai, who is no stranger to hefty compensation, could get an additional $90 million in stock grants if Alphabet shares outperform the S&P 100 Index.

Pichai received about $200 million in stock awards in 2016 and his compensation for 2018 was $1.9 million according to the Bloomberg Pay Index.

Pichai being rewarded highly has caused internal turmoil at Alphabet. An employee asked at a staff meeting why Pichai was being paid so much, while others struggle to afford to live in Silicon Valley.

After Pichai joined in 2004, he quickly took on responsibility for some of the companies popular products like Gmail, the Android operating system and the Chrome browser.
