With just over four months to go for Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday tried to assure investors that the democratic system, human values, and strong judicial system would ensure the safety and security of their investments.

Modi was inaugurating the 9th edition of biennial Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar. The three-day event has 15 partner countries, including Australia and Canada, and more than 30,000 registered delegates. This time, however, the US and England have not joined as partner countries.

The prime minister further said that they were working to improve the investment climate further, and make themselves more competitive. To those who were yet to come to India, PM Modi extended an invitation. Mentioning that they had set up dedicated ways to help investors on a one-to-one basis, Modi assured that he would be always available to assist them in their journey.

Speaking about Ayushman Bharat scheme for the second successive day in Gujarat, Modi said that the scheme would benefit about 500 million people, more than the combined population of United States, Canada and Mexico. He said that the scheme will provide immense investment opportunities in the areas of health infrastructure, medical equipment manufacturing and healthcare services.

Modi said that India was among the highest growing tourist destinations in 2017. He added that while in 2016, the world grew at an average of seven per cent, India grew at 14 per cent.

The prime minister highlighted various flagship programmes of his government, which included Make in India as well.

He said that, horizontally, there was a need to spread the benefits of development to the regions and communities that have lagged behind. Vertically, he said, they have to meet enhanced expectations in terms of quality of life, quality of services and quality of infrastructure.

Top leaders from the partner countries, Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Group, Gautam Adani of Adani Group, Kumar Mangalam Birla of Aditya Birla Group and Natarajan Chandrasekaran of Tata Group were present at the inaugural session.
