The Paul John Visitor Centre at Goa has won the Global ‘Visitor Attraction of the Year’ award at the World Whiskies Award, 2025.

This is the first-of-its-kind centre in India which allows visitors to witness the craft and processes behind the making of Paul John single malt, which has earlier been crowned the world’s third-best whiskey.

Produced in Goa, the company’s range of single malts have earned global recognition at leading whiskey competitions with over 320 awards.

The uniqueness of the whiskey lies in the use of indigenous six row barley and water sourced from the Western Ghats. Its taste includes a hint of peat- which offers it a smoky flavour and oak tinged honey. At the centre, guided tours take guests through the various stages of production, highlighting the importance of each step in creating a superior single malt whiskey.

Such tours are popular in the West, but have just made a start in India. They allow users to learn about the distilling process, discover new flavours and understand the history and culture behind the beverage. They also teach visitors on how to enjoy their drinks- sniffing your wine and swirling it around your mouth before the first sip for instance. They are open only to those above 18 years of age.

The whiskey tourism market in the world, still at a nascent stage, is already valued at $19.17 billion.

The awards recognise the world’s finest whiskey brands, experiences, and innovations created for both consumers and the global drinks trade- a market valued at $ 2,313.2 billion in 2023.
