Equipped with the latest diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, the new facility will follow a multi-disciplinary approach to ensure personalised, precise, and compassionate care to every cancer patient.
This development aligns seamlessly with Sir Ganga Ram Hospital’s vision, to be a leading healthcare delivery, education, research, and training institution that honours the legacy of its founder by providing equitable and affordable services to all. Speaking at the event, hospital officials reaffirmed their resolute commitment to a future of healthcare that is not only technologically advanced but also rooted in trust, humility, and compassion.
Sir Ganga Ram Hospital’s remarkable journey began amidst the upheaval of India’s Partition in 1947. Originally established in Lahore, the hospital had to be rebuilt in New Delhi, thanks
to the relentless efforts of
Shri Dharam Vira. The foundation stone of the hospital was laid by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in April 1951, and it was formally inaugurated on April 13, 1954, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Sir Ganga Ram, a celebrated architect of Lahore from the preparation era. From those modest beginnings, the hospital has evolved into one of India’s most respected institutions, currently housing over 900 beds, 71 specialties, more than 100 specialised clinics, and 35 advanced operation theatre.
Elaborating on integration of technology, treatment and care, Dr Swaroop, stated, “Long before the launch of Block E, the hospital was doing tremendous amount of oncology work, be it onco surgery or clinical oncology and now with the procurement of the world-class radio therapy unit coupled with a well-known team of radiotherapist is going to change the game. Technology wise, we have the best machines available in the world. But what underscores our commitment is serving the patients by providing world-class and holistic treatment with compassion. We now have a dedicated palliative care unit that shall hand-hold the patients through their entire journey alongwith guidance with the objective to instil confidence in them for living life with dignity. Also, the new cancer care wing will definitely factor in the affordability aspect by being very competitive in its pricing. But we hope to go beyond medical expertise to be guided by our values of compassion and excellence in whatever we do.”
With the launch of Block E, the hospital further strengthens its mission of pursuing excellence in ethical and sustainable healthcare, backed by advanced research and training. The new cancer care centre represents a seamless blend of modern infrastructure and a deep rooted value system. It not only stands for medical excellence but also embodies the hospital’s unwavering belief in equity, empathy, and ethical care.
Having consistently grown brick by brick, the inauguration of Block E by the Hon’ble President marks a new era in cancer treatment, not just for Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, but for the nation at large. As India battles a growing cancer burden, the hospital’s investment in cutting-edge facilities, guided by its founder’s legacy, is a crucial step toward delivering hope, healing, and health to thousands of families.
