Sindhu aims to maintain winning run in Japan Open

Fresh from her victory at the Korea Open Super Series badminton tournament, Rio Olympic silver-medallist PV Sindhu will aim to continue her rich vein of form when she heads into the Japan Open, which gets underway in Tokyo. Sindhu, who is seeded fourth in the tournament, will have to be at her menacing best to get through world No. 19 Minatsu Mitani in the opening round of the women's singles event. The Indian badminton star recently took a sweet revenge of her 2017 World Championship final defeat to Nozomi Okuhara, by beating the Japanese opponent in the pulsating summit showdown of the Korea Open.

India tour of South Africa likely to begin on January 5

India are most likely to begin their tour to South Africa with the New Year's Test on January 5 or 6 next year in Cape Town. According to ESPNcricinfo, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) are on the brink of finalising the details for the tour, comprising four Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is. It should be revised that the two cricket boards have been engaging in discussions since the beginning of this year, however, they have failed to finalised the schedule yet. Last month, the BCCI had informed CSA that the Virat Kohli-led side would not tour the country until the last week of this year as their home series against Sri Lanka would only end on December 24.

Indian hockey eves beat Belgium junior men's team 4-3

The Indian Women's Hockey team ended their Europe Tour on a high as they beat the Belgium Junior Men's Team 4-3 in a pulsating encounter in Antwerp. Goals from Gurjit Kaur (7', 11') and Captain Rani (13', 33') gave visitors their first win of the tour. A rampant Indian team started the match with some enthralling attacking play as they earned a penalty corner in the seventh minute which was well converted by drag-flicker Gurjit Kaur to give India the lead.

Bayern Munich's Neuer out until January after foot surgery

Bayern Munich have confirmed that their goalkeeper-captain Manuel Neuer will be out until January having undergone another operation after again fracturing his left foot. The 31-year old fractured a left metatarsal during training and had an operation early on Tuesday. The German goalkeeper had only returned at the end of August after fracturing the same foot in April. This was Neuer's third operation on the same foot in six months after minor surgery for a toe injury in March and then again in April after initially fracturing his foot against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Amitabh Chaudhary submitted 'false' undertaking: Aditya Verma

Aditya Verma, secretary of the 'unclaimed' Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) and the original petitioner in the Board of Cricket Control India (BCCI) case, on Tuesday alleged that Amitabh Chaudhary had given a false undertaking to the Supreme Court in order to become BCCI acting secretary. Aditya's comments came after he filed a plea in Supreme Court, alleging that Amitabh had disregarded the court's direction by inviting disqualified cricket administrators to attend the board's meetings. Lashing out at the BCCI acting secretary, Aditya said that while former BCCI president Anurag Thakur did the mistake unintentionally, Amitabh committed the mistake intentionally.

South Africa to play on Boxing Day, confirms CSA

Cricket South Africa (CSA) CEO Haroon Lorgat has confirmed that South Africa will play on Boxing Day, despite India not touring till early 2018. "We will have content for Boxing Day but we're not yet in a position to announce that. We need to secure it first," Lorgat said. The CSA CEO also said that a Test match is preferred over other formats for the Boxing Day and New Year.

Kerala HC asks shops in Kochi Stadium to down shutters by Sept 25

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday ordered the business establishments at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi to shut down shops for the smooth conduct of the FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in October. It is reported that at least 236 shop owners have been asked to close down their shops from September 25 till October 28 till the event is over. The High Court also ordered the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) to deposit a sum of Rs. 25 lakhs with government treasury, which will be used to pay compensation to the shop owners for loss in business and also compensate employees who work in these shops.

Rubel Hossain denied NOC to travel to South Africa

Bangladesh fast-bowler Rubel Hossain is doubtful to participate in the upcoming two-Test series against South Africa after he was denied immigration clearance to visit the country. The 27-year-old was to fly along with his teammates, but having failed to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from immigration authorities, which is a now a mandate for visiting South Africa irrespective of whether a visa is obtained or not, forced Emirates to refuse him a place on the airline.
