Nadal stays top post China Open triumph

16-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal continues to remain at the top of the ATP men's rankings after lifting his sixth title of the season at the China Open in Beijing. Nadal extended his winning streak to 12 straight after defeating Australia's Nick Kyrgios 6-2, 6-1 in what turned out to be a one-sided summit clash of the men's singles event on Sunday. Meanwhile Simona Halep snatched first place in the Women's Tennis Association rankings released on Monday after she qualified for the China Open final.

BCCI warns players against participating in 'unapproved' T20 Leagues

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday issued a warning to its players against participating in "unapproved" Twenty20 leagues, emphasising that the Indian Junior Players League (IJPL), the Junior India Player League (JIPL) and the Junior Indian League are not conducted or approved by the board. "It has come to our attention that certain T-20 cricket matches, series, tournaments and/or camps are being conducted by leagues under the names of the Indian Junior Players League ("IJPL") and the Junior India Player League/Junior Indian League ("JIPL")," BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary said.

Women's cricket breaks new grounds

Interest in women's cricket has seen a major surge over the past couple of years and new research unveiled on Monday by the International Cricket Council (ICC) shows the scale of the impact this summer's Women's Cricket World Cup has had on fans and new participants. The first study of its kind on women's cricket among sports fans across Australia, England and Wales, India, New Zealand and South Africa was commissioned to mark the start of the ICC Women's Championship and shows a huge boost to the women's game. Conducted by Nielsen Sports, the objective of the research was to investigate awareness of the Women's World Cup, perceptions towards the women's game and key motivators to getting involved.

ICC to approve Test championship

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to approve plans for its long-awaited World Test Championship at a meeting in New Zealand this week, it was reported. The sport's governing body has argued for years that a Test championship is needed to boost the five-day format's popularity as crowds and television viewers flock to the big- hitting Twenty20 version of the game. But squabbling over formats and fears that some nations will be disadvantaged have twice stymied efforts to launch a league structure since 2010.

Sakshi Malik bats for development of sports infrastructure in Nagaland

Olympic freestyle wrestling bronze medallist Sakshi Malik has batted for the development of a proper sports infrastructure in Nagaland on her maiden visit to the state. Malik, who was with her wrestler husband and Arjuna awardee Satyawrat Kadian in Dimapur, Nagaland on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of St. Mary's Higher Secondary School, said that the sport in Nagaland requires greater exposure, while calling on the state government to provide the facilities for the same.

Usman Khan replaces Mohammad Amir for Lanka ODIs

Injured Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has been replaced by Usman Khan Shinwari in the 15-member squad for the upcoming five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, beginning October 13 in the UAE. Amir, who has been an automatic selection for Pakistan in all three formats of the game since his return, had hurt his right shin and returned to the dressing room towards the close of play on Friday during the ongoing second Test of the two-match series at the Dubai Cricket Stadium.
