Sports fraternity hails P.V. Sindhu on winning Korea Open

The sports fraternity has come in unison to congratulate P.V. Sindhu, after the Indian badminton star made the country proud by winning the Korea Super Series title in Seoul, South Korea on Sunday. In an exhilarating summit showdown that lasted one hour and 24 minutes, the ace Indian shuttler produced a spirited performance as she bounced back from a game down to register a 22-20, 11-21, 21-18 win over Okuhara and eventually lift the third Super Series title.

Jaipur defeat Delhi in PKL

A terrific all-round performance by Jaipur Pink Panthers saw them thrash Dabang Delhi 36-25 in a Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) contest in Ranchi on Sunday. Nitin Rawal and Pawan Kumar combined to score 12 raid points while Manjeet Chhillar and Sidharth scored nine tackle points for Jaipur. It was a disappointing performance by Delhi as they were second best for majority of the match. Abolfazl scored six raid points for Delhi.

Chelsea's run of red cards leaves Conte bemused

Chelsea coach Antonio Conte had ordered his players not to lose their discipline against Arsenal on Sunday. David Luiz, it seems, did not get the message.The Brazilian defender was shown a straight red card for a wild tackle on Sead Kolasinac in the tense final minutes of the 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge. That is likely to mean that Luiz will miss his side's next three league games which will include the visit of fellow title-contenders Manchester City.

Babar achieves career-best sixth spot in T20I rankings

Pakistan batsman Babar Azam has moved up 21 spots to achieve career-best sixth position in the latest ICC T20I Player Rankings for Batsmen after his player of the series performance that helped his side complete a 2-1 victory over the World XI in the Independence Cup series played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The 22-year-old started with a fine innings of 86 and followed it up with two other useful knocks of 45 and 48 to finish as the highest run scorer in the series with 179 runs, eight more than his compatriot Ahmed Shehzad, who has gained nine slots to reach joint-22nd position.

Chamara Silva slapped with two-year ban for misconduct

Former Sri Lankan cricketer Chamara Silva has been slapped with a two-year ban from all `cricket-related activities` for misconduct and violating 'spirit of the game' during a domestic match. The suspension comes seventh-month after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) launched an enquiry to examine a Tier-B game between Panadura Cricket Club, captained by Silva, and Kalutara Physical Culture Club which saw unusual scoring rates. The match has been declared null and void.

Zhu wins women's crown at Asian TT

Zhu Yuling of China defeated compatriot Liu Shiwen in a hard fought womens singles final to win her maiden continental title at the 30th Asian Championship table tennis tournament in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The Chinese paddlers regaled the sizeable crowd at the TransStadia arena with some top quality action before the World No.3 won 6-11, 11-9, 11-8, 10-12, 11-13, 11-6 in a thrilling contest which lasted for more than an hour.

France, Australia edge closer to berths in Davis Cup final

France and Australia each moved within one victory away from reaching the final of the Davis Cup tennis competition with doubles victories over Serbia and Belgium respectively. Playing on clay at Pierre Mauroy Stadium here on Saturday, the French doubles duo of Pierre Hugues-Herbert and Nicolas Mahut cruised through the first two sets before wrapping up a 6-1, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) victory over Nenad Zimonjic and Filip Krajinovic in just one hour and 48 minutes to give the hosts a 2-1 lead in the tie.
