As India and Pakistan spar, intelligence agencies have sounded an alert in the National Capital following the Uri strike at Srinagar. They say that the capital city is a lucrative target for the terror groups. Additional paramilitary forces will be placed at the disposal of the Delhi police to ward off any threats. The upcoming festival season also makes places of high public footfall the chosen targets for terrorists who may want to inflict maximum casualties.
Terror groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba are active and could choose major cities and metros as their target. The intelligence agencies have warned that Delhi being the capital city is vulnerable and always a possible target for terrorist groups, especially during the festival season when there is huge gathering of people in markets and places of celebration. The Delhi police, assisted by central forces, will keep a tight vigil during the upcoming festivals like Navratras, Durga Puja, Dusshera, Diwali, Chhath Puja . A tight vigil will be maintained during processions, and at places like malls, hotels, busy markets, schools, colleges, temples, airports, metro stations, bus stands to avoid any untoward incident. The intelligence agencies have said that CCTV cameras would have to be checked and made operational in all such places.
The alert in the capital follows a major terrorist trike at the Army base camp in Uri sector of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday morning, where four armed terrorists entered into the army base camp . During the attack, 17 army personnel were killed and several others wounded. Another army personnel succumbed to injuries later. The Uri terror strike had sparked a direct confrontation between Indian and Pakistan, with the former accusing Pakistan of direct involvement in the attack on its soldiers. The India-Pakistan ties are under heavy strain, with security analysts pointing out that terror outfits may use this opportunity to cause further damage and escalate the tension further.
