A poster for a photography contest put out by the Integrated Child Development Services in Kashmir is going viral, for the wrong reasons. The poster printed the photo of Merin Joseph IPS as that of Dr Ruveda Salam, the first female IPS officer from Kashmir. Joseph, a 2012 batch officer form the Kerala cadre, is currently deputy commissioner, Kozhikode City. Salam joined the IPS in 2013, served as assistant commissioner of police in Chennai and then got into the IAS in 2015. She is the first female IPS officer from Kashmir Valley.
The poster put out by the ICDS project officer of Breng block in Anantnag district had initially gone viral for featuring Asiya Andrabi, founder of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, an all woman, separatist organisation. The other 11 women in the poster are Governor Kiran Bedi, Mother Teresa, Kalpana Chawla, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Indira Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Lata Mangeshkar, IAS officer Deeba Farhat, Kashmir health minister Asiya Naqash, tennis player Sania Mirza and poetess Habba Khatoon.
The ICDS poster was released as part of the Central government’s Beti Bachao, Beti Padao programme. The BBBP programme is a joint venture of the Ministries of Human Resources Development, Women and Child Development and Health and Family Welfare.
The pretty Joseph had set cyberpace on fire after a photo of her in uniform went viral during her training period.
