Husband of a middle-aged woman—whose throat-slit body was found along with those of their 16-year-old twin sons in Kolkata on Saturday—has reportedly told the police that he killed his wife while trying to prevent her from killing the twins.

Blood-soaked bodies of Jessica Fonseca and her twin sons, Darren and Joshua, were found lying in a bedroom of their third-floor apartment in south Kolkata’s Karaya area—all with throats slit—on Saturday.

The bodies were discovered by Jessica’s sister Shabana, who lives in the same building, which is close to the residence of former West Bengal Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharya.

Jessica's husband, Neil Fonseca, was found lying in a nearby room with injures. He was rushed to a hospital, where he reportedly gave his statement to the police.

He said Jessica and he had an argument after the family went out for a party and dinner on Friday and that she turned “violent” after some point and once back at home started attacking the twins with a knife, according to reports.

Neil apparently tried to stop her but ended up killing her, only after she had killed their sons, reports quoting police sources said. Darren and Joshua were class nine students.

The police said they were probing all angles. Senior Kolkata Police officers inspected the site, along with homicide squad personnel, and sniffer dogs.
