India’s first lady biker Veenu Paliwal dies in road accident

In a tragic incident, Veenu Paliwal, India's first woman biker, died on Monday evening in a road accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district.

Veenu was on a nation wide tour on her Harley Davidson bike along with her fellow biker Dipesh Tanwar. She started from Lucknow on early Monday morning and was heading to Bhopal when the tragedy struck.

The accident occurred when her bike skid off a road near Gyaraspur, 100 kilometers from state capital Bhopal. She was wearing protective gear.

Veenu was immediately taken to a primary health centre and then to the Vidisha district hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Her family and friends in Mumbai, Indore and Jaipur have been informed about the tragic incident, said police, adding that some of them have already reached the hospital.

A post-mortem will be conducted on Tuesday, following which her body will be handed over to the relatives.

The 44-year-old Jaipur resident was known for riding Harley Davidson bikes at 180 kmph and she was also planing a documentary on her motorbike journey across the country.

Veenu, a restaurateur, learned to ride motorbikes when she was in college. However, she couldn't pursue her passion because she did not own a bike and her ex-husband wouldn't allow her to ride.

Last year, she got divorced and bought a Harley and started pursuing her passion for riding.

She is now survived by her two children.
