The Indian Air Force's advanced jet trainer aircraft 'Hawk' crashed near Kalaikunda in West Bengal on Thursday. However, both the pilots in the twin-seater aircraft ejected safely.

The aircraft had taken off from Kalaikunda air base around 10.30am for a routine training mission. It soon developed ”unserviceability” resulting in a crash, said a statement from the IAF.

There is no reported damage on the ground.

The IAF has ordered a court of inquiry to ascertain the cause of the accident.

Inducted about eight years ago as a dedicated advanced jet trainer to reduce accidents involving mainline fighter aircraft, 'Hawk' has had two accidents so far in the service of IAF.
