Union Minister Giriraj Singh asked Hindus not to cut cakes for birthday celebrations as it is not part of 'Indian culture'.

Speaking at a religious function organised in Aurangabad district of Bihar, Singh, who is the minister of state for micro, small & medium enterprises (MSMEs), said instead of cutting cakes to celebrate birthdays, Hindus should offer prayers in temples.

According to media reports, the minister asked people to take an oath to do away with the custom of cutting cakes. He said it is sad to see people following Western culture even though Indian culture is "old and strong" and expressed concern over the deterioration of Indian culture in rural areas.

He also urged the Hindus to be united to make sure that the religion is 'saved'.

Further, he said these days children are addressing their parents as ‘mummy’ and ‘papa’ instead of ‘maa’ and ‘babuji’ or ‘pitaji’, adding that words like ‘maa’ and ‘pitaji’ have an emotional connection.
