Suspended BJP leader and MP Kirti Azad's wife Poonam Azad will join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on November 13.

"Poonam Azad will officially join the AAP on November 13," AAP leader Sanjay Singh told reporters after a meeting at her residence.

Poonam Azad, who contested against then Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit in the 2003 assembly polls, was serving as a spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party's Delhi unit.

Poonam Azad refused to comment on the development, saying she would speak only after joining the AAP.

Sources close to her told IANS that she was miffed with the BJP leadership for ignoring her although she had worked for the party for more than 20 years.

"She was denied ticket in the last two assembly polls only because a senior BJP leader had reservations against the family. Even her son was denied ticket of MCD election," a close aide of Poonam Azad told IANS.

"In the fight for self-respect, she finally chose the AAP," he added.

Kirti Azad, elected to the Lok Sabha from Darbhanga in Bihar, was suspended by the BJP after he spoke against corruption in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) when it was headed by now finance minister and BJP stalwart Arun Jaitley.
