Should a BJP leader have won the Ballon d'Or? Tanmay Bhat thinks so

Shortly on the heels of Mani Shankar Aiyar's neech remark that put Congress on the backfoot, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra caused a furore on Saturday when he said termed Modi desh ka baap (father of the nation) on a television show.

The incident snowballed into a controversy after Congress on Saturday demanded that Prime Narendra Modi apologise to the country for the "insult".

Twitter's resident smarty-pants (and Snapchat's virtuoso face-swapper) Tanmay Bhat was ready with some witty swipes at Patra.

"Sambit Patra should get the next Ballon d'Or for the sheer numbers of self goals he's scored this year," wrote the All India Bakchod (AIB) comedian.

Congress had capitulated on the statement, saying that the BJP should fire Patra, just like they fired Mani Shankar Aiyar.

"They had the audacity to insult Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. They can abuse and misbehave with us. We don't have any objection. We will accept it as the test of democracy."

"But on behalf of Congress party and 130 crore Indians I want to say, such insult of Mahatma Gandhi by BJP spokespersons won't be tolerated by us. Now, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is termed as 'country's father [desh ka baap]'," Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala told reporters.
