End of world, say fundamentalists as Muslim girls shake legs to 'Jimikki Kammal'

Some of them say these girls' act has caused cyclone Ockhi

The much celebrated Jimikki Kammal is back to the news, this time with a stink of controversy. The video of three hijab-clad Kerala girls dancing for the popular track at a public place has gone viral on social media, drawing ire of religious fundamentalists, who accused the girls of insulting Islam.

The flash mob was reportedly held in the Muslim majority Malappuram district on December 1 as part of an AIDS awareness campaign. The video was shared widely on social media, but most of the posts were critical of the girls and their families, terming them as a 'curse for religion'.

While some of the fundamentalists predicted the 'end of the world', some others went on to claim that the act of these girls had caused the cyclone Ockhi which recently battered the Kerala coast leaving a trail of destruction.

“This was what happened in Malappuram today. Fortunately there was no tsunami... End of the world comes closer,” read a caption along with the video.

Another post said: “It seems there is no space in their homes to tie them down, so they were left free.”

However, the video has been well received by another section which saw it as a wave of change in the Muslim community.
