Censor board says no to bra scene, Savita Bhabhi in Baar Baar Dekho

Sidharth-Malhotra-kaif A still from 'Baar Baar Dekho'

The censor board is at it again. The board while certifying Baar Baar Dekho starring Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif, has ordered two cuts in the film, which has left many, including the makers of the film flabbergasted.

The board has asked the filmmakers to remove a scene showing bra from the film along with a reference to popular adult cartoon character 'Savita Bhabhi.' However, the board has passed the film with a 'U/A' certificate.

The board’s decision on the film has upset the filmmakers.

“Are we living in the Victorian era when women’s innerwear was never spoken of in public? Years ago in 1995 there was a bra shot featuring Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan. And Baar Baar Dekho is directed by a woman. So the chances of lingerie being used to titillate the audience are nil,” said a Baar Baar Dekho team member, according to Bollywood Hungama.

The film is directed by Nitya Mehra and set to release on September 9.

This is not the first time, the board has sparked off debates on the creative freedom of film directors a number of times in the past. Its chief Pahlaj Nihalani's conservative approach to certifying movies for theatrical release has incensed film fraternity and the audiences alike.

Earlier this year, Nihalani came under heavy fire for ordering a large number of cuts in Udta Punjab, the film which dealt with Punjab's thriving drug abuse. However, the film was passed with one cut after its prouder Anurag Kashyap moved the court and secured a ruling in his favour.

Nihalani has even earned 'sanskari' tag for his efforts to rid the films of cuss words and scenes which are touted to be against Indian culture.
