Jaipur, Nov 6 (PTI) A mob allegedly attacked a polling station, set election material on fire and vandalised several vehicles, including police cars, following the declaration of sarpanch election results in Udaipur district, police said on Friday.

Four police personnel, including three assistant sub-inspectors, were injured in the incident that took place late Thursday night in Navaghara gram panchayat under Kherwara panchayat samiti.

The violence erupted after the defeat of sarpanch candidate Joshna Kumari was announced.

Her husband, Sundarlal Bhagora, and his supporters allegedly attacked the polling station set up at a school in Navaghara and set election material on fire, the police said.

The mob also vandalised police vehicles, jeeps and vehicles belonging to polling parties.

When police tried to disperse the protesters, they allegedly climbed nearby hills and threw stones at them, injuring four of them.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rajat Vishnoi said the situation was brought under control by nightfall and peace was restored in the area.

Around 30 people have been named as accused for arson, stone-pelting and vandalism, he said.

The violence took place during the third phase of panchayat elections in Rajasthan, in which polling for sarpanch and ward panch posts was held across 27 districts on Thursday.
