Morena, Nov 5 (PTI) Three girls in the 10-12 age group drowned on Thursday in Kwari river in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district while taking a holy dip during Kartik month, a police official said.

The bodies of sisters Chanda Yadav (10) and Nishi Yadav (12) as well as Prachi Yadav (12) were recovered after a six-hour search operation, he added.

"The girls, who live under Kailaras police station limits, had gone to the river around 5:30 am to take a holy dip. They apparently entered deep water while bathing and began to drown," Superintendent of Police Dharmaraj Meena said.

After being alerted, a Kailaras police team launched a search operation with the help of local divers and then called in the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), he said.

"After nearly six hours, the bodies were retrieved around 1:40 pm. The last rites were held in Harlal Ka Pura village," the official added.
