Bengaluru, Nov 4 (PTI) A complaint has been filed with the cybercrime police alleging that a purported video of Karnataka Minister Vijayanand Kashappanavar's WhatsApp call with a woman was manipulated and circulated on social media with misleading captions, police said on Wednesday.

The complaint was filed by the Small Scale Industries and Public Enterprises minister's personal assistant, they said.

According to the complaint, on October 29, a short video titled "Vijayanand | Congress Talent Vijayanand Kashappanavar - Viral Video of Minister Sri Vijayanand S Kashappanavar..! SNK" was uploaded on YouTube channels and Facebook accounts.

The complaint alleged that the original audio of a purported WhatsApp video call between the minister and a woman was muted and replaced with a different audio track.

The allegedly manipulated video was circulated with false and sensational headlines, thereby tarnishing the minister's reputation, the complaint stated.

The complainant has sought legal action against those responsible for circulating the video and requested its removal, police said.

A senior police officer said the complaint had been received and a preliminary enquiry was underway. No FIR has been registered so far.
